I’m sure you’ve already heard plenty about what Singapore has to offer—the nature that coexists with unique and structurally sound architecture, pedestrian-friendly and indisputably safe streets, cheap public transport, cleanliness; and the abundance of fines that regulate that cleanliness. It’s the perfect beginning destination for aspiring international students, but even more so for incoming SP Jain Global Jaguars!
Just take it from me:
My first year at SP Jain Global saw more than just classroom activities and the usual sit-down seminars. If I remember correctly, I got my first taste of that exposure during a marketing class with Professor Jireh, who took us to a company’s headquarters to get to know the faces behind the brand and the ways we could potentially market their products (this was our semester-end project he coined as “JagDen”). The following were trips to Singapore’s tourist attractions like Universal Studios, Night Safari, Gardens by the Bay, and much more.
But I learned the most on our trip to Singapore’s Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA), where we gained valuable insights into the country’s strength of planning ahead, and when I took over SP Jain Global’s Instagram for a day.
I think that global learning—the ‘class’ dedicated to providing these trips—is such a fun and unique way of encouraging networking among the students because of the different environments (come on, who wouldn’t enjoy a day in Universal Studios—for free!).
And as someone fond of taking photos and cataloging them, especially in a visually aesthetic way, handling SP Jain Global’s Instagram for a day allowed me to do exactly that, with the addition of learning to reach out to a broader audience (like classmates I’ve yet to talk to or aspiring Jaguars), representing our campus, and showcasing bits of the dynamic life at SP Jain Global. More so, I learned the importance of storytelling, time management, and effective communication—but most of all, to live in the moment.
Be ready for lots of downtimes as well!
Because of the diverse cultures in Singapore, SP Jain Global dedicates days, sometimes even weeks, to various holidays. I recommend using that time to explore Singapore’s more local scene (hawker centers, Vivo City, Marina Bay, etc., depending on which area you choose to live in).
Finally, to the incoming Jags, my advice is simple: embrace every opportunity that comes your way. SP Jain Global is a place that encourages exploration, so don’t hesitate to step out of your comfort zone. Make and engage with new friends, participate in activities, and make the most of the “global” exposure offered. Enjoy the journey. Your time here will be filled with learning, growth, and unforgettable memories.
