Transportation

Getting around is really easy in Singapore, and pretty easy in S P Jain's other two cities.

Housing

Singapore -- The hostel (dormitory) is right upstairs from the classrooms. You jump in the lift (elevator), and you're there. Most students share a room with one, two, or sometimes three other students. You get a bed, desk, chair, small closet with drawers, sheets, and comforter (but no towel -- remember to bring one or two!). It's clean, and has everything you need, but it's not exactly spacious. The bathroom is down the hall, which you share with other residents. Males and females live on separate floors, and do not share bathrooms. There is are washers and dryers for doing laundry. They take tokens, which you can get from the front desk. Many students buy drying racks to air-dry their clothes, especially Indian cottons which shrink in dryers. Each dorm room has its own air conditioner, and a window to the outside.

Dubai Happenings Oct 2013

Splashing in the water, cries, excitement. Our college, being very much for extra-curricular activities, didn’t miss the opportunity to bring usto the Dreamland Aqua Park. In fact, this is the largest water park in the region—featuring over 30 thrilling rides, a multitude of restaurants and food choices, tennis, volleyball and basket ball courts. It also consists of a pool bar, a Jacuzzi and many more. This was really a very relaxing day for us—perfect to forget all the stress of school . So far, this was the best experience in Dubai. Since it is a hot place, to enjoy in water the whole day was so cool. The climate was appropriate to have fun in water. We were a diverse group. Vietnamese, Chinese, Indian, Kenyan, Indonesian, Brazilian, Mauritian, British and Burmese; we all had fun together.

Professors

Who will your professors be at S P Jain? Seasoned academics from all over the world, with a passion for making classes lively and fun. And frankly, they're a bunch of nuts. (If you look carefully at the Harlem Shake YouTube posted on the Fun blog here, you can catch a glimpse of most of the Singapore profs.)

Jobs and Internships

Jobs Many Jags choose to get part-time jobs in Singapore and Sydney to help pay for college. The Singapore government gives special permission to foreign students at certain colleges (including S P Jain) to work 16 hours a week when classes are in session, and 40 hours a week during breaks. In Australia, it’s 20 hours during classes and 40 hours otherwise. Foreign students in Dubai are not allowed to work.

Money

If you live on campus, your housing will already be paid for. So all you have to worry about is food and incidental expenses. For most Jags, though, this is the first time they have had to manage their own expenses.

Sydney Campus

Diggin' It Down Under Sydney has it all -- beaches, nightlife, outdoor sports, and a big, big country to explore. That's why the Jags call it (unofficially, of course) the most "kick ass" city of all. And it's probably why Australia is one of the top destinations worldwide for foreign students. In fact, foreign students represent the second-largest sector of Australia's economy, second only to mining.
