Being a student at SP Jain School of Global Management has been an adventure in learning, personal growth, and cultural immersion. Hi, my name is Tanishka Darira, pursuing the Bachelor of Data Science at SP Jain Global. In my experience, the school’s environment goes far beyond books and classrooms; it’s a place where different cultures converge, offering a fresh perspective that has deeply enriched my worldview. I didn’t fully realise the value of this until I found myself discussing data science applications with peers from all over the world, each bringing their unique viewpoints to the table.
The professors here are more than just lecturers; they’ve become mentors who are genuinely invested in each student's journey. During my internships—like the one at Adaptive Investment Solutions, where I worked on option pricing models using AWS Sagemaker, or at NP Investment Research, where I delved into market analysis—it was reassuring to know that I could lean on my professors for advice. They helped me navigate technical challenges and shared insights that have grounded my practical experiences in a solid academic foundation.
During my internship at NP Investment Research in Boston, I worked on a research project focused on developing a technical analysis model that combined Hidden Markov Models to predict buy and sell signals for nine ETFs.
I had the opportunity to work in a diverse, multicultural team with students and professionals from various backgrounds. This environment taught me a lot about managing projects effectively and helped me appreciate different approaches to problem-solving. One challenge we often faced was understanding exactly what the client wanted. To address this, I learned to ask more precise questions and to communicate frequently with the client, which helped us align better and deliver what they were looking for. Fortunately, I could always reach out to my professors for guidance. They were incredibly supportive, offering practical solutions and helping me navigate these real-world problems. Their insights made it easier to break down complicated tasks and approach challenges with more confidence, knowing I had a reliable support system to back me up.
The multicultural setup at SP Jain Global has prepared me to work in diverse environments with ease. This exposure was especially beneficial when working in international settings, where I combined my skills with local market knowledge to analyse ETFs effectively. These interactions helped me approach problem-solving with a global mindset, a skill that I know will serve me well in the future.
It has been a mix of hands-on projects and meaningful relationships. Through projects like air quality analysis and predictive models for eye disease, I’ve been able to experiment, make mistakes, and learn in a safe space, supported by passionate mentors and friends. SP Jain Global has provided more than an education—it’s been a platform for discovery, helping me build a future I’m excited to explore.
