Meeting Pres. Nathan of Singapore

On the 6th of May 2014, a couple of colleagues and I were given the opportunity to attend the 5th ASEAN event series “Bridges – Dialogues Towards a Culture of Peace” in the home of the Ambassador of Sweden for Singapore. This event was a well-recognized event as it operated in different countries such as Thailand, Malaysia and the Philippines, where it advocates the spreading of peace through addressing basic levels of needs such as education, healthcare, protection of the environment, reduction of violence and many more. As we entered the door of the beautiful home of the Ambassador of Sweden, we were greeted by high-profiled individuals such as the Prince of Liechtenstein and the previous president of Singapore, S. R. Nathan. It was truly a humbling experience as we strolled around the home of Ambassador Hakan Jevrell, because we met individuals who advocate peace, yet are CEOs of multinational companies. This encounter made me realize that I am minuscule compare to the individuals present in this event. However, the main highlight of the night was the brief encounter with former President S.R. Nathan. After conquering our shock and awe, we were finally able to approach the former President and asked to have a photograph with him. The former President was a gentle and humble man, a worthy President of the Republic of Singapore.

Jags Meet Prince of Liechtenstein

“The longest journey a man could ever embark on in life is the journey from his mind to his heart”. A poetic man of such high position, meeting His Royal Highness (HRH) Prince Alfred of Liechtenstein is such a short, yet very memorable experience. The moment that I was informed that we were to meet someone with such title, I was somehow excited and nervous at the same time since it would be my first time to be in such an event. When we got there, we immediately felt out of place since everyone seemed to be dressed so professionally and everyone seemed to also be in high positions of their own fields. There was wine, a lot of different kinds of cocktail food, and especially me and my friend’s own personal favourite: the Swedish meatballs!

Jags Meet Sen. Aquino

During the first week of the summer break students of S P Jain went to the Philippines for an outreach program. The program was an eventful and heart-warming experience that helped every one of us grow. Therefore it seemed fitting that upon completion of the outreach program we had the opportunity to meet with Senator Bam Aquino a social entrepreneur and a Senator of the Philippines.  Sen. Aquino is the Committee Chair for Trade and Social Development in the Philippine Senate and the youngest Senator ever voted into the Philippine Upper Chamber election history).

Football Tournaments in Dubai

Last week was a sports week for football enthusiasts at the Dubai campus. First, the BBAs and MBAs organized a 7-a-side football tournament which took place at a high school in Dubai. We tried our best to make it look professional by having appropriate bidding for the players, looking for sponsors for jerseys, having a caring management team for each team, etc… Football players, management, as well as the supporters all had unlimited fun. It was a suitable way to mix with the MBA students and get to know them more. It doesn’t end here.

China Community Project May 2013

Seeing a 6-year-old boy smile when you hand him a candy is a feeling that is unforgettable. But what made the China Community Service Trip so successful was the fact that we did not just make one boy happy; we helped an entire school. A school of 105 children. How did all of this start?

Desert Camping Plus Trips to Oman and Al Ain

Semester 4 in Dubai is getting better week by week. SP Jain is reinforcing their promise of “one activity at least per week”. On our first weekend after New Year, a camping was organized in the desert at Liwa, Abu Dhabi. This was an amazing experience, very different from our usual outings. Far away from everything—no network, no internet, completely away from our comfort zones.
